Cherry Angiomas

Cherry angiomas are also called senile angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots. They are the most common type of angiomas (benign tumors) that adults can develop on their skin.

What Causes Them?

The precise cause of cherry angiomas remains uncertain, although several contributing factors have been recognized, including:
  • Genetic predisposition (family history)

  • Pregnancy or hormonal fluctuations

  • Sun exposure

  • Exposure to specific chemicals, notably bromide (commonly found in pesticides and food additives)

  • Liver disease or damage

Unless they cause bleeding or discomfort, angiomas typically do not necessitate treatment. However, individuals may opt to have them removed for cosmetic purposes.
Cherry angiomas can be removed by electrocauterization (burning), cryosurgery (freezing), or laser surgery.
Dr. Querido uses laser surgery because it is the best approach.
Clarity II laser by Lutronic is a versatile laser that can be tailored to target and treat non-cancerous pigmented lesions, making it effective for removing cherry angiomas as well.
