Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating, causing the body to produce more sweat than necessary, often without any identifiable cause. While this condition can lead to feelings of discomfort or embarrassment, it’s important to note that it is quite prevalent.
The goal of the hyperhidrosis treatment is to reduce or completely prevent sweating from a particular area, most commonly, the underarms.
Botox injections work by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, responsible for signalling the sweat glands to produce sweat.
Individuals with hyperhidrosis, characterised by abnormal and excessive sweating, typically have overactive nerves triggering this condition.
When Botox is administered directly to the affected area, it temporarily immobilises the hyperactive nerves. Consequently, these nerves are unable to stimulate the sweat glands, resulting in diminished sweating.
It’s important to note that Botox exclusively targets sweating in the specific region where it’s administered.
