Bioidentical hormone replacement vs synthetic

Hormone production controls most organs, every function of the body, and most aspect of men’s and women’s health. A person’s energy level, metabolism (weight gain or loss), libido (arousal), and sexual sensation and performance are all influenced by hormone production.

But when hormone levels decline or are out of balance, it can cause a wide variety of health problems – including sexual dysfunction and more. Menopausal hormone declines in women, and “Low T” (decreased testosterone) in men, are just two of the many causes of hormone decline or imbalance.

Fortunately, hormone replacement to restore missing or imbalanced hormones can remedy most of these health issues. But, not all hormone replacement methods are equally effective. At Greenwich MD, we offer Bio-identical Hormone Replacement – the most natural and successful method for rebalancing hormones and restoring health and quality of life.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES

Bio- Identical hormonal Replacement can be used to treat men and women when their hormone levels drop or become unbalanced. It’s most frequently used to ease symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. It may also be used to improve symptoms of cancer treatment or to treat conditions such as:

– Insulin resistance
– Adrenal and thyroid disorders
– Osteoporosis

The principal difference between synthetic hormones and bioidentical hormones is their similarity to the hormones produced by the human body. Something as complex and organic as a hormone molecule simply can never be created in a laboratory to identically match a natural human hormone. Bioidentical hormones are different from those used in traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in that they’re identical chemically to those our bodies produce naturally and are made from plant estrogens. The hormones used in traditional HRT are made from the urine of pregnant horses and other synthetic hormones.

Supporters of bioidentical hormones claim their products are safer because they are “natural” and identical in makeup to the hormones the body produces naturally.

A helpful analogy is to compare the body’s cells to little “locks” – with the body’s natural hormones being the “keys” that perfectly fit these cellular locks. Since biodentical hormones are identical copies of the cellular “keys” they can unlock the body’s cells just like the body’s hormones.

But, a synthetic hormone is always going to be different from the body’s “keys”, so synthetic hormones will not fit the receptor cells as well bioidentical hormones. And, if it isn’t a perfect fit, it simply will not work as well.

RISKS OF SYNTHETIC HORMONES VS. BENEFITS OF BIODENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT

The side effects of synthetic and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy were compared in some extensive research studies in 2002. Those researchers reported finding that synthetic forms of the male hormone progesterone posed health risks to patients – while the natural, bioidentical progestin hormones actually offered certain health benefits.

In that study, the synthetic progesterone was found to be associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer. However, the bioidentical hormone formula of progesterone had the opposite effect – and was associated with inhibiting breast cancer. The bioidentical progesterone actually was shown to stop breast cell division by acting on kinase inhibitors.

Continued research on synthetic vs, bioidentical hormone replacement is still being conducted. However, recent clinical research trials continue to indicate that bioidentical hormones are a safer long-term alternative to synthetic hormones, as well as being more highly effective.

If you are a man or woman, at any age, suffering from decreased libido, weight gain, fatigue, impaired sexual performance or enjoyment, sleep issues, hot flashes, mood swings, depression, anxiety, or other conditions affecting your quality of life, a hormone decline may be to blame.

Schedule a consultation and blood test at Greenwich MD to see if you are suffering from a hormone imbalance, like so many other individuals. Bioidentical hormone replacement could be the answer to helping you attain better health, achieve renewed energy and improve your intimate life!
